Evening concert at Bradfield St George Church, Saturday 28th June 2025
Angels Delight are truly just that – a delight. As to their angelic status I cannot attest, but Adriene Ellis (flute) and Anne Chorley (harp) play their instruments beautifully and, I am sure, they would be an attribute to any celestial band.
Their programme was eclectic, ranging from traditional ballads from around Britain to classical pieces and film music. Flute and harp are a winning combination particularly when playing folk music and works from the classical repertoire. A particular favourite of mine, Papageno’s song from Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’ was delivered with great panache and wit. Traditional Irish tunes such as ‘Lannigan’s Ball’ and ‘The Star of County Down’ allowed each instrument to shine.
The whole programme was delivered with warmth and humour including a rather surprising ‘Flight of a Bumble Bee’, which buzzed in and out catching us all unawares. The evening drew to a close with ‘Annie’s Song’ by John Denver requested in advance by one of the audience to celebrate a Golden Wedding, before the traditional ‘In an English Country Garden’.
The audience had had a ball and it seemed the two musicians had had a pretty good time as well. Certainly, they seemed to appreciate the ‘Angel Delight’ served at the interval. Our sincere thanks to Angels Delight for a wonderful evening and may they stay firmly earthbound and entertaining us for many years to come!
